| About the Book

|
| Horses are regarded as one of the best friends of man. Horses have been man's principal mode of transport over thousands of years. They have ploughed his fields, fought his battles, carried his nobility and royalty, regaled him and have even sacrificed their lives in order to protect their masters'. In some civilisation and cultures horse meat has been a staple diet and the mares milk a rich source of nutriment. In short the horse has been a wonderful friend, a loyal ally, a faithful companion, a fine mode of transport and beast of burden all rolled into one. No other animal in man's recorded history including the dog - which many consider man's best friend - has ever been so useful or has had as important an impact in man's advancement as the horse. |

Horses were and have been
a magnificent means of transport over thousands
of years. Even after the industrial revolution
in England and the invention of the external combustion
steam engines, horses were regarded as the preferred
means of transport the world over. Later on the
invention of the motor car provided humans with
a viable means of transport but till just over
seven decades ago riding on horseback remained
the fastest mode of travel; amazing isn't it?
The spread of kingdoms and armies over the world
owe their origin to this magnificent animal -
the horse. The spread of empires over the world
from a group of a few disparate civilisations,
distinctly located from one another can be attributed
to the numerical strength and the multiplicity
of uses that these civilisation have put the horses
to. In other words it can be aptly called "The
Horses Empire". |
